Remediating Fire Damage in Calabasas

The Five Categories of Fire Damage Restoration
Each fire in Calabasas is different from the last one. The extent of damage depends on the structure, how long it burned, and how hot were the flames. This information is important so that we can determine what is needed to restore, remediate, or replace property.
Every home with fire damage in Calabasas requires a variety of restoration methods. Most of what SERVPRO offers is part of our standard services, but there are a few only needed for special items. Our office creates a plan from these categories designed not just to remediate damage but prevent further damage as well.
Mitigation – This first action our teams take is to secure the structure and prevent additional damage. That includes covering damaged roofs and boarding up broken windows. As an example why it is important, the owner of a duplex contacted our office last year after a kitchen fire. Unfortunately, he called us the morning after the incident. When we met him at the duplex, it had already been spray painted inside and out.
Structural Cleaning – Smoke quickly moves through an entire home. When it gets behind walls, and into attics or crawlspaces, the supporting structure needs cleaning. Our IICRC-certified technicians spray or hand wipe antimicrobial agents on every piece of wood or metal framework to not just clean the surface but to eliminate smoke odors also.
Contents Cleaning – Most personal property, furniture, drapes, and clothing for example, quickly absorb residue and odors. In most cases, we can clean it at home, using a variety of cleaning agents and simple tools like brushes and sponges. For heavily stained items, we use machines like immersion tanks at our office to soak and remove the odor and residue.
Reconstruction – When more than smoke gets into crawlspaces and behind walls, it compromises the structural integrity of a home. Where this happens, our teams bring in temporary supports like wall jacks to prevent secondary damage and provide a safe work area as we replace load-bearing walls and other support structures.
Specialty Restoration – This type of restoration covers items like electronics, artwork, and even automobiles. In a recent garage fire, one of our clients had a restored 1959 station wagon survive with only residue damage. Cleaning soot and other particles from auto paint is not something we do normally, so we recommended she take her vehicle to a professional auto shop.
